2001 Race Hawk
This page is gonna be to keep ya updated on the progress of my
2001 Race Hawk.
I just got a Hord motor built for my race Hawk.
I'll write up a full report ASAP.
Y2K Race Hawk
Hey, I'm on the ferry on the way back to Long Island. I just spent my whole day driving up to Computrack Boston. I left the Hawk with Peter Kates. Hopefully he'll be able to do his magic on it. Get it to handle a bit. I'll let you all know how it works, and what it costs, when I get it back. It should take about two weeks because
of Thanksgiving. I'll also try to get a little banner from Computrack to post on here to make it look a little more professional.
Well, I spoke with Peter on Thursday of last week (12/16) finally. He said my Hawk wasn't very straight. Rear ride height was about a mile too low. He said it was $100 to measure and another $460 to straighten. I might be being stupid here but I'm not
going to bother having it fixed. The frame is off 1/2 of a mm. The swingarm, which can't be fixed anyway, is 2/10's of a mm off. I'm going to try to pick it up just after New Years. I'm going to try to go to a F3 front end and if not I'm going to re-measure the front end that's on there and Penske is already getting me a new,
longer shock body ready for me to swap out to make the rear ride height right. I'll update this section as soon as everything comes together. Later.
Well it's April 4th and I'm still not done. I have my dry erase pit board from the XR100 endurance race with my list on it. It reads something like this:
1. Cut carbon panels.
2. Mount electrics and everything from old subframe.
3. Mount Lower.
4.Call Ken for billet.
5. Go to Mudshark's for rearset relocates and fairing spacer.
6.Mount rear brake.
7. Pick up chain from Fun Wheels. (See links page.)
8. Paint bodywork.
9. Bleed brakes again.
10. Check tire pressure.
Now I'll try to explain.
1+2. I mounted a Hawk Connection racing subframe which is way cool. Saves about 7 pounds. Now I have to mount the black box, rectifier, fuel pump, and about half a dozen other things. So I bought a couple of sheets of carbon fiber to cut to fit the subframe. At least now I'll have a flat surface to mount things to.
3. I mounted air-tech bodywork and still have to mount the lower with the Dzus fasteners that I bought about 3 years ago 'cuz "THIS YEAR I'M GONNA DO IT RIGHT!"
4+5. A friend Ken can get scrap metal from work. He'll supply the metal.
6. I have to try to make my rear brake work because I'm using Dynasty F 2 rearsets in place of Hawk ones 'cuz I had the lying around.
7. Did it already but I'm too Damn lazy to cross it off of the list. So change that to
mount said chain.
8. Of course I'll be out there on stock white crap because of that lazy thing.
9. New front end and air keeps appearing.
10. Last year Mudshark went with new tires on his SRX and said they turn in way fast but aren't as sticky as I thought they were gonna be. Can ya see where this is goin' yet? I checked his pressure's for him and both were in the mid to high 50's! So I figured, measure twice crash none.
I decided to scrap the fuel pump idea and go with this Mikuni vacuum assisted diaphragm. It takes motor vacuum and uses that to pump fuel. That should be here by the weekend.
Well it's 1am I have tomorrow off of work and this weekend too. My goal is to have the Hawk in the trailer and the bodywork painted and drying by Tuesday night, the 12th. Wish me luck.
If anybody has any tips on Hawk stuff just drop me an E-mail. Thanks.
These are pictures of my Hawk Gt. I ran it for 3 days last season. Getting it all set up
for April. I hope it all works out.

More to come!
Well, the bike ran like crap all day Saturday. I think it was a fuel starvation problem.
I'm gonna switch back to the electric fuel pump and get rid of the vacuum actuated
diagram. I also bought another Hawk from Frankie Boots. It's got a rod sticking through the front cylinder. I'm gonna pillage it
for some of the cool parts that it has. Sell off some of the cool parts that I don't
want.
