Back in February I picked up this '01 Suzuki DR650 with only 1,848 miles on the clock. I wanted to check it out and see how I liked it compared to my KLR 650's that I've had and have. Stock it was pretty lame so I almost instantly started adding, tweaking, modifying, or flat out removing everything that would make a difference. First was modifying the airbox lid, and rejetting. Next was swapping in a K&N air filter and Kientech prefilter. Then a slightly used FMF Q2 pipe was swapped on in place of the over weight but nice and quiet stock pipe. It's definitely capable of wheelies now. Nothing scary like my KTM 450, just nice mellow power wheelies in first. A Moose bash plate was added for curb hopping. Yesterday I whacked the rear fender, tail light, and turn signals and swapped in a DRZ 250 tail light, and small stalk turn signals that are about half the size of the stockers. Next up on the list is a Buell dual headlight conversion and Acerbis hand guards with built in turn signals. I ordered the Buell parts from Brett (the owner) is a long distance rider and also a big singles road racer so I figured I'd ask him for a price quote on the parts. Turns out his parts guys also know their stuff so I went with them. If you plan on doing the conversion hit them up for a quote.
