Click all pics to enlarge. OK, I'm gonna try to write up the first story of the season. As usual we went up on Friday night. It was me, Mudshark, Pizza, Cynthia, Muddy, and Rocco. Track Nap, Melissa, and Spanky were already there. Jason bought a new MuZ and wanted to try it out in Friday's practice. Mudshark was running Frankencycle, so I bought Suicycle! That's a FZR 400 chassis with a XR 600 Honda 4-stroke dirt bike single in it. I bought it from a guy in Seattle. I had to pick it up in Queens on Tuesday the 24th. I got it running on Tuesday night after I filled all the fluids. I did some more stuff to it Wednesday and Thursday after work then Thursday night loaded it up in the trailer so I was ready to go Friday after work. Pizza met me at home and we headed out to Mud's house. We picked up Mudshark, and Cynthia out there, loaded up his stuff and we were on our way to the ferry. I don't even remember what time the ferry left or what time we got to the track. But we made pretty good time while we were driving. We parked next to Jason, and we just crashed for the night. The three of us that were racing went to sign up on Saturday morning. Pete, and Jay were in the red practice. They put me in the yellow which means I had about 40 minutes extra to get ready. So I help them get ready and get out there, then whadda ya know? I almost missed my whole practice. I got one lap before I saw the checkered flag. Great way to shake down a new bike. When I got back into the pits the first thing I remember saying was that this new bike was for sale. I hated it! So I played with the suspension a little bit. I went out in my second practice and the suspension felt a bit better. The bike was breaking up and losing power. I pull the plug, it looked OK color wise, but there were little chips of something on it. I put a fresh plug in to see if maybe the plug was shot. I also noticed that it was puking up a little oil. So I decided to put a better puke tank on it. I also took about four feet of hose and put it on the crankcase breather vent. I zip-tied it to the subframe and bought a K&N filter to go in the tube. We got it all the way to the back of the tail section. We figured it wouldn't blown enough oil to go up the tube, soak the filter, and if it did it would hopefully blow past the tire. So we all decided to get something to eat at the checkered flag restaurant. We were all waiting around for GP singles, which was like race 5 or 6. So we all got out there on the grid. We went for our warm up lap and got into position for the race. This is my first start on this bike and I had no idea how to launch it. So I got a pretty crappy start. Went through the first lap just trying to get familiar with the new bike. About the time I crossed the start finish line I looked down and noticed that oil was puking into the new puke tank. It was a one liter soda bottle so I still had plenty of room but I decided that as I got around to pit road next time I'd pull in. I wanted to try to fix the bike for race 12, super singles. Coming down the hill, into the bowl on lap two, it threw me over the bars. I don't even remember hitting the ground. The next thing I remembered was the doctors asking me if I knew why I was there. I didn't remember shit! It turns out my helmets junk, they cut my leathers off, they even cut my T-shirt off. I haven't even looked at the bike yet but I don't think I did too much damage. A local guy is gonna look at the motor he thinks the rings are shot or the cylinder is scored. That's pretty much the damage report for inanimate objects. Me on the other hand, I'm a mess! The rest of the story is below. This is been in just the new stuff that I haven't gotten around to writing yet. Click to enlarge. I was talking with Tracey yesterday and she told me that when the doctors got me conscious in the hospital I came to and said to her, "I took a little nap on the track." That's HYSTERICAL!!! I laughed sssooo hard when I heard that I was crying. Jason's nick name is Track Nap 'cuz last year he crashed and was unconscious for a little while. He left a message on my answering machine and he said that he took a nap on the track. I guess I was thinking about that while I was out. I remember almost nothing from the rest of the weekend, and the following week I turned brain dead like my brother. He was laughing at me because I couldn't remember what I had told him and what I hadn't. It'll be three weeks tomorrow and it still rattles my brain if I cough, laugh, or God forbid sneeze! Well, I took a few shots of my X-Rays. Take a look at my broken metacarpal. Click these to get bigger pics. I drew a small circle around the broken spot. Broken hand, separated shoulder, sprained thumb, concussion and I was unconscious for quite some time. Not bad for the first weekend of the season. Here's just what I look like from the ER trying to start an IV!!! Thank GOD I didn't need surgery. Click to see the gory details! Here's a copy of my hospital bill. Over $5,000 in under 5 hours at the hospital. Please make sure you have medical insurance if you race. Click to see the gory details! Here are a few before pics of my leathers. I'm gonna send them off to Barnacle Bill's Racing Leathers. When I get them back I'll post some after pics so you can see the kind of work he does. Of you can click here to see Jason's from last year.
