OK gang, this is going to be my report for the 7/29 7/30 race. Mudshark couldn't make it up so Jason and I went up by ourselves. I adopted another Bassett Hound about two weeks before the event. So now I had Muddy, Rocco, and Chester. It turned out pretty good though, three adults, three dogs. We made a 7:00 ferry out of Orient Point, got to the track before midnight, and had plenty of energy to set up our stuff. That's pretty unusual for us. Jason and I signed up Saturday morning for races eight and twelve. Since I crashed in April and Jason crashed in May this was the first weekend back for both of us. Jason got one lap of practice in the first session and maybe four or five out of the second. I got five or six laps out of each practice. I felt slow, which I always do, but now I was scared. After practice I just went through the bike and took it easy for race eight. I was starting 35th, Jay was starting 36th, out of the field of 38. Jay wasn't feeling right and got lapped on lap five so he pulled out. I was just riding around trying to get over the fear of someone crashing me again. I ended up getting a 25th out of 38. My best lap was a 1:36 and change. I still suck! I thought I was going to be sick by the time the race was over. I stayed in the shade tried to drink as much as I could to get ready for twelve. By the time twelve started I felt a little better. But not much. I don't remember where we started, but in our wave there weren't as many people. But there were THREE waves! Middleweight Sportsman, Production Twins, and Super Singles. Jason ended up pulling off with one lap to go and I ended up twelfth in class. He never saw the crossed flags and had no idea how much longer he had. We wanted to wait to see how we felt on Sunday morning before we signed up. We woke up Sunday, talked about racing as our first practice when off, and decided not to race. About 10:30 the skies opened up and it down poured. WOO WHOO!!! We won one for a change. We were loaded, and pulling out a little after noon. We had 9:45pm ferry reservations. Even after stopping for a few hours of shopping, we got to the ferry at ten after six. Thankfully, they got us on the 8:00 boat. That was it. Good Lord willing, we'll be back up for the August race. Stay tuned! Ciao Catfish
