Rhody Rally '07

Jaime and I just got back from the inaugural running of the Rhody Rally.
It started and ended in Narragansett, RI.
I had to work all day and got a little jammed up so instead of getting the 4 o'clock ferry from Orient Point to New London, CT like we wanted we jumped on the KTM

to try and catch the 5 o'clock boat.
That was the first time Jaime had a chance to sling a leg over the big KTM.
We just missed the 5 o'clock boat so we waited around for the 6 o'clock.
We fired up the laptop to start putting a route together since we didn't have time to even look over the bonuses that we received on Wednesday we figured we should start that as soon as possible.
We got to New London about 7:30pm and got to Narragansett at about 8:30.
The fog was so bad it was pretty much raining out.
After a few beers and some really greasy fried fish we headed back to the hotel to hose off and plan a route.
There were about 7 pages of possible bonus locations to choose from.
The only rule was you had 11 and a half hours before penalty points started and 12 hours before you were time barred.
The biggest single bonus was in Cape Elizabeth, Maine.

Since I had never been to Maine before we decided to head there.
The only other bonus I really wanted to see was the Station Night Club site.
That's the club that Great White burned to the ground and 100 people died.
Very sad site.

We picked a few bonuses along our route there to grab and had a VERY conservative route.
The GPS said 8 hours round trip.
The GPS does not factor in how long it will take you at each stop though.
Everything went perfect.
We didn't make any stupid mistakes and pulled back into the lot at 5:03 Pm.
27 minutes before penalties started.
We ended up with 25,245 points and 458 miles ridden.
That was good enough for a 10th place (out of 22) and 2nd (out of 2) in the 2-up category.
We planned a great ride and rode it perfectly.
Jaime was an AWESOME passenger and an even better coordinator.
She took care of all the paperwork for this rally, which is a lot of organizing and rules following.
It worked out perfect for me because I could concentrate on riding.
The KTM worked flawlessly.
3rd gear seems a little "tight" so I need to have that looked at, and the chain wore a hole in the Loobman delivery tube.
My fault on that.
I need to find a better way to route it.
The Autocom was EXCELLENT!!!
The only think that didn't work perfect with that was that I couldn't hear the GPS.
I have to test it directly with headphones to see if the power cord is working.
I have zero testing of the Autocom before we left so I was VERY pleased with the results.
I'll try to post some pics in the next few days.
